Why would you want to? You used the race example a few times. Okay, so some people are white, fine. But would you be comfortable around someone who self-identified as "Aryan"? They are using a word that comes attached to the most hateful ideology imaginable. See the difference?

as used by a nazi or an Indo-Iranian? And what of JayZ's position on the n-word? the google-dictionary-thesauri imply incels = involuntary celibacy = sexual frustration, that lonely category Alana coined is meaningful and we shouldn't let the co-opting haters "blackpill" it

If a white person refers to themself as an "Aryan" they are indicating that they are a Nazi. If a man refers to himself as an "incel" in 2018 he is indicating that he is a misogynist extremist. This isn't fucking complicated. The word HAS BEEN tainted for YEARS.

I'm not really sure I agree that there are no non-nazi contexts for aryan but even if I accept that premise, there isn't the same level of google-dictionary confusion on that word

Again, this is you trusting very cursory googling over SEVERAL WOMEN with years of knowledge on this who are telling you the same thing. If you want to start a support group for lonely people, that's actually a nice idea, just pick a different name and stop bothering me!

I am really not trusting the reference materials over you (and the others flaming me today) - I understand now the misogynist culture you are all yelling about - but the word you are using to describe a group that coopted another meaningful word is apt for this confusion

I am offering this as politely as I can -not sure how it’s coming across, as it’s the internet & tone is harder to convey- but, when I was unable to find a date for 7 years, I would have been *offended* by being labeled an “incel”. Men I know who meet the criteria of being unable

to find sexual partners also *reject* the word, & would be *devastated* if I called them an incel. I trace this back, specifically, to incel communities “canonizing” Elliot Rodgers for committing multiple murders in vengeance against society for the refusal of “beautiful, blonde”

women to proposition him for sex on the basis of him being existent & in their field of vision. There is a group who identifies w/ the label, & they’ve made it toxic. Why *force* that label on other people who *do not want* it?

I am not forcing it on anyone - I saw some tweets with a word I didn't know - I looked it up - the definition appears incorrect or outdated - but is it because: incel not equal involuntary celibacy? or involuntary celibacy not equal sexual frustration? all were once synonyms?

“Sexually frustrated” preceded “incel”, I believe- IIRC, it was being used in the 1990s to describe anyone who was having less sexual contact than they wanted (I think the connotation included people in relationships w/ mismatched sex drives, too, though). “Involuntarily

celibacy” seems to be a condition, &, in my experience, I’ve heard men use it in terms of “Well, technically I’m involuntarily celibate, but I’d never call myself an incel.” A major part of the reason seems to be the connotation both of those terms have RE: Elliot Rodgers, but

another facet a (male) friend just pointed out to me is that he would *like* to find a sexual partner he’s attracted to, & feels self-identifying as being *unable to do so* might be really unhealthy/ counterproductive for him personally.

many people don't feel comfortable associating with their involuntary conditions but the label could still apply - so many deep levels of shame involved in our collective views of sexuality - so hard to unpack that from these labels - anyway thanks for sharing your experience
