This is definitely moving, but realistically this approach works 1/10 times.

No. I worked inner city a long time, de-escalated 100s of dangerous situations with intoxicated & emotional people. Never ended in violence.

I worked ER and residential treatment. Not as much experience as you, but I've seen the same thing happen. Oddly, less violent response ...

It is probably not about how it ended... cops should show precaution but atleast start with wisdom and give everyone a chance...

Easy for me to say I guess, and surely it takes a lot of courage to give someone a chance.

Easy to forget cops aren't only ones to face dangerous/scary ppl as part of the job. Nurses, EMTs, social workers do to- but without guns.

don't get up. She could tell I was struggling to not hit her back. She went to jail for a month. She respected staff after that.

The officer was indeed very compassionate, but it's quite a stretch to suggest that by-the-book self-defense would be hatred.
