If you learn of any senior government officials attending holiday parties sponsored by government contractors, big law firms, lobbyists, advocacy groups or anything else similarly sinister, please post a response here.

I’ll look for the video clip tomorrow, but a member warned in the 1980s that, if they didn’t raise congressional salaries, the govt would be filled with Donald Trumps. Quite the prophetic warning. You can side with Trump if you want, but I’m with on congressional salaries./2

She’s right. When they considered the 1989 Ethics Reform Act, congressional salaries were at issue. It’s an equity issue. Keeping salaries down is fine if you want to be ruled by the wealthy. But banning stock trades for members and raising salaries is the better answer. /1

What’s worse is that many who engage in these practices publicly tout not approving cost of living or MRA increases in the leg branch as a way of claiming “fiscal responsibility,” yet compensate by engaging in this highly questionable trading. It incentivizes this bad behavior

There is no reason members of Congress should hold and trade individual stock when we write major policy and have access to sensitive information. There are many ways members can invest w/o creating actual or appeared conflict of interest, like thrift savings plans or index funds

It’s Friday night. Our elected officials are still fighting fascism with soggy wads of Sunbeam bread. Let’s say the hell with them and crank guitar music. Here’s my first entry. Add your raucous guitar sounds, and I’ll respond with more. Or pet pics. 🎸🐶

Sometimes I get annoyed that the guitar isn’t always what it used to be here. Then I remember that the guitar moved to Japan and is absolutely crushing it there.

“Banning lawmakers, their top staffers, and their spouses from buying and selling individual stocks should be as non-controversial as crop rotation or pulling to the side of the street when an ambulance goes by.”

It’s a symbol of the broader neglect of ethics and democracy under this administration. These things are not their priority.
