Interesting, but I would argue the Kennedy Assassination, the king of all conspiracy theories, started the “conspiracy theory movement.” Look at how many books were written about it? One could only imagine how the internet would have treated that that moment had it existed.

There was also a huge conspiracy theory movement about Pearl Harbor. And you’re right about the JFK assassination. But they’re too far in the past and too far before the Internet existed for them to have been as closely tied to today’s situation as the 9/11 conspiracy theories.
