explain to a non-lawyer, do sanctions ever happen? any examples?

I think one is more likely to get sanctioned because one is mean to a judge rather than because of ethics violations

100% The mistakes here have been so egregious (suing on behalf of clients who did not agree, cropping out documents to mislead the court, making false claims of fact) that it's crazy there will be no consequences.

Has any lawyer been so discredited through his or her practice of law (not for other acts like Avenatti) as this lady? Whatever good reputation she had before has been smashed to smithereens.

They're not though. And this allows the charade to continue. It's really terrifying, TBH.

Who wrote this brief? We should know if incompetent and criminal attorneys are a risk to the public.

Completely agree. It’s highly disappointing to me that Trump and his allies have literally lost 50 lawsuits and not a single judge has sanctioned any lawyer or client. A stiff sanctions order would have deterred the filing of many of these frivolous lawsuits.
