The barbers are back and the volume of traffic in Belfast appears to have quadrupled. What’ll it be like when shops open? A hair raising thought.

Some of us have clear memories of 1968-69 and numerous other grim episodes since. We are not in a good place right now. This is a time for cool heads, carefully measured words and wise leadership from across the political divide. Those of us who believe in prayer must pray.

FOR MOTHER’S DAY A mother's love’s a blessing, No matter where you roam. Keep her while she's living, You'll miss her when she's gone. Love her as in childhood, When feeble, old and grey, For you'll never miss a mother's love 'til she's buried beneath the clay.

The appalling scenes of human suffering in Yemen are surely a reminder that we don’t have much justification for a lot of our complaining.

Over a hundred thousand people dead, Brexit chaos, unemployment spiralling up and Jacob Rees-Mogg and the aptly named Phllip Hollobone choose to debate weetabix, marmalade and nanny in parliament

The NI Executive, NHS and, from my own personal experience this morning, the Ulster Hospital at Dundonald, are to be commended for an extremely efficient Covid-19 vaccination programme for those of us in the 65-69 age group.

The EU no more cares for Northern Ireland than the British government. From godless, heartless capitalists in Babel, and from self-serving, two-faced, small-minded English nationalists in London, good Lord deliver us.

Times have certainly changed. We are now complaining that masks are not being worn at paramilitary funerals.

Another political giant has fallen. No matter what our perspective on politics, no-one can deny that John Hume was one of the most influential and significant figures during the darkest days in the history of NI. He was also a man of peace. Condolences to his family and friends.

Remembering Jim Reeves who was killed in a plane crash near Nashville on Friday 31 July 1964, aged 40. By far the best male singer I have ever heard.

While it is good news that the CV19 level has been reduced today from 4 to 3, it is still important to be aware of what Level 3 means. In other words, be thankful, but don’t go nuts just yet.

Last night’s country music extravaganza on BBC2 has caused me some political confusion. I keep referring to Emmylou McDonald.

The noisiest and most enthusiastic 8pm round of applause yet in Belfast. Apart from clapping we had the H&W siren, fireworks, car horns and bells.

The PM and Health Secretary have tested positive. The burden of responsibility on these men is enormous. The Bible commands us to pray for those in authority so it’s incumbent upon us to pray for wisdom and healing to be given to both men. Any other attitude is anti Christian.
