Still wrapping my head around the fact that there are some liberals out there who fervently deny that economic stress exacerbates prejudice. It's almost as if they'd rather talk about anything other than inequality.

Continuing in that vein, Reagan scapegoated "government" as the root of stagflation and Carter's economy. But when he launched his campaign in Neshoba County with a "states' rights" speech, it was abundantly clear who he was really talking about...
The facts are simple: Today the US faces historic inequality. A majority of workers cannot afford to save and face debt. The number working multiple jobs is at a 20 year high. 41 million are underinsured/28 million uninsured. 600k+ medical bankruptcies a year. This feeds hate.
Meanwhile, there is a massive demographic shift happening right now in this country. Whites will soon no longer be the majority. The whole situation made for fertile ground when Donald Trump started ranting about immigrants and how much they're 'taking' from 'real Americans.'
No issue in American history has been as divisive or defining as race. But class and economics are an inextricable part of the equation. It should come as no surprise then, that they are best dealt with together—like LBJ’s Great Society did by including civil rights legislation
Few are naive enough to claim that addressing one without the other is enough. Solving economic inequality alone will not eliminate the societal ills of racism. But without addressing the economics of racism, we can never hope to solve the problem.
It should also be noted that cishet patriarchy is yet another part of the equation—not as an afterthought but as an essential consideration to any reform package progressives aim to pass.
So let’s cut the bullshit, and stop exchanging facts and science for knee jerk partisanship.
If more liberals do not start talking about statistics like up to 40% of annual deaths from the 5 leading causes are preventable; if they don’t start talking about how life expectancy is declining; if they don’t start talking about how the rich are richer than ever,Trump will win
A common retort I've been hearing from those unmoved by the evidence is that "rich white people are racist." Racism being a constant among the white electorate has no bearing on the fact that conditions of scarcity--or the perception of it--exacerbates prejudice.
