How about some follows for me out here in “Kansas”?

While I have you here, I have a confession to make that truly breaks my heart because I have grown up loving the Chiefs. I still remember playing football as a kid and we all pretended to be Chiefs players. I was always Buck Buchanan.

But sometimes you see things and they can’t be unseen. What I can’t unsee is that the name of our team and many of its traditions are cringe inducing. The tomahawk chop and the sing-song war cry cause me to turn off Chiefs games now.

My confession is I didn’t even watch the game. It saddens me that such a great team and city (even if it is in Kansas
) are tarnished by headlines that cannot be denied any longer.pic.twitter.com/RAgwtjuIf3

The truth is that most folks in KC probably don’t even know a single Native American and yet our team that makes us proud is saddled with an objectively racist name and traditions. It’s easy not to think about it when it has always been thus.

My hope is that the big city with a small town feel will really think about this issue seriously and make a change we can all be proud of. As we like to say around these parts about our teams, “It’s our time”. Our time to do what’s right, in a big way. /end

Or show up to WH expressing excitement in seeing & meeting President Obama, then leaving when they’re faced with DT while telling him they really wanted to meet “America’s favorite president, Obama”.
