Cost $6000+ (ignoring the lawyer's fees) for my US work visa in fees (H1B), and currently at $3500 working on my green card. UK takes the cake for sure in fees, but i feel they have more reasonable grace periods and the lack of nationality quota is better. Both are dehumanizing.

though UK quickly hurtling towards the same level of sadism as the US immigration system in recent years under May/Johnson. These laws were first instituted to prevent migration from colonies to colonizers, and legacy remains that they disproportionately affect the third world.

This isn't considering the NHS "fees" I had to pay for my visa, which cost £2500 (on top of what's taken out of my paycheck), and being treated like a criminal despite having an American passport. I can't imagine how they treat others. It's awful in both countries
