Dickens has been accused of sentimentality, and specifically of sentimentalising and romanticising the poor. People who say this are familiar with the good-hearted Cratchets, but seldom mention Mrs Gargery or the alcoholic and abusive brick-layer of Bleak House

Of course it's not evil. Evil is doing the wrong thing when you've had the opportunity not to. It's poor socialisation for the most part, at least in Britain where classes are socialised in different worlds from one-another
