because i think promoting the idea that expansion of legal protections to trans people is the bridge too far and that rights advocates will have thus brought backlash upon themselves is inherently transphobic and analogous to victim-blaming

There is no equivalent law for non-trans people that curtails freedom of speech in this manner. It is not an extension. You think little of civil rights but are happy to moralise when fighting this particular corner
