I used to have a decent deadlift for a year or so, but I hurt my back one day and stopped going on doctor's orders. Need to get back on the horse tbh lad

A common tale, unfortunately. Deadlifts are great but not essential for looking good imo. Only lifters notice legs unless there's a massive disparity in upper and lower body proportions. Lots of upper body stuff can be done without intersecting with your back too much.
