I like Poe but my like is based on ideas, not prose or story outline (occasionally he is great at all of these but a lot of the time falls flat and inconsistent). I like him like how I like Isaac Asimov: in a narrow context of genre and pushing boundaries.

It's a bad opinion though to start bringing up Shakespeare. Poe was his own kind of genius wrt speculative fiction but imo not a literary one on the whole. My hot take is that Poe < Lovecraft < Ligotti, Ligotti the only one whose later work is of non genre fiction standard
