Most of us, I imagine, encountered great art first through its parody. How difficult it is to think of the lines "To be or not to be," or of the overture to Rise of the Valkyries, without some faint memory of humourless deconstruction worming its way into our minds

The best parody arises from love and critique of the original. While I can empathize with the idea of deconstruction "tarnishing" the original works, perhaps that slight irreverence is necessary to the creative process.

Still though...to be able to experience things again without context would be amazing. Parody, expectations, others' opinions...everything changes the context of that first experience.
