I have to say that, since joining /lit/ twitter, I've been disappointed by the overemphasis on philosophy and politics (boring) and the underemphasis on literature. And where the latter is employed, it's only as a vehicle for the former two

Yeah, I definitely agree. I think it's why you've seen things like curious cat used around here so much to bring in some of these benefits.

One problem is that it is just impossible to any kind of sustained conversation. Anything that doesn't transpire in minutes can't happen. This leaves the environment sterile to all but certain types of ideas. Once you've seen all of those, there is no reason to stay.
