Literature is difficult to talk about, and when one does one is left wide-open for derision. The political and philosophical can mask itself behind all kinds of memetic devices to save face. I have a little respect for Logo here, though he's often guilty of being political

Another problem of the scientific/ philosophical approach is that it creates an atmosphere in which people take everything they read as a sincere belief of the poster, rather than a word experiment aiming to create some kind of effect, regardless of its political truth

When people develop ongoing spats on twitter I tend to think that they have misunderstood the platform

This makes sense as it has always been true on /lit/ itself as well.
-
Maybe to a large degree, but I'd say there are pockets of literature discussion, which are even rarer to encounter here
-
You can definitely try out new ideas and be sincere without fear of recourse. I think actually agree that it is more suited to literature to discussion than here.
-
I left for a reason though. In an anonymous environment like /lit/, the group just ends up in a stasis and nothing ever progresses.
-
There are some advantages. Namely that each post is judged on its own merit, cults and sycopahncy are less likely to form, there is an honest (and frequently brutual) critique of one-another's writing and opinions are not withheld for fear of being expelled from a community
-
Yeah, I definitely agree. I think it's why you've seen things like curious cat used around here so much to bring in some of these benefits.
-
One problem is that it is just impossible to any kind of sustained conversation. Anything that doesn't transpire in minutes can't happen. This leaves the environment sterile to all but certain types of ideas. Once you've seen all of those, there is no reason to stay.

Would like to see more lit “content,” but Twitter as a platform is near-hopelessly biased towards discussion of current events/“news”
Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
