DFW wrote the way he thought actual authors wrote, and of course it turned out pompous, overblown & deeply insincere. His particular brand of pseudo-intellectual pretentiousness, sentimental kitsch, and mawkish musings is physically revolting to anyone who isn't a literal retard.

I read him as a teen (American Psycho, Less than Zero and The Rules of Attraction) and found the intentional vacuousness thrilling for a while, but it didn't last. Every work is practically the same
