I can only speak for myself, but conservative thought (which is usually dry and uninteresting) gains an allure simply because students are not exposed to it at university. When one has only been exposed to one radical idea after another, the commonplace appears radical

Politically it is constantly losing ground, but if you're normal and not naturally cautious it can help immensely. can also benefit space cadet smarties

There were some precursors in hipster culture - the vintage was its reactionary element. It was only matter of time for some people to realize that mere appearance/style is not enough... it cant cure the alienation and spiritual death we are experiencing in the west now.
