That is unacceptable and disrespectful but given that this is aimed at the only woman of colour on the degree who is permanent staff, yes it is flexing white male privilege and entitlement. And yes that is racist and sexist.

And at the core of it, you are really saying: I don’t trust or respect your ability to decide what is on the reading list; I don’t respect your expertise or knowledge; I don’t think you can teach me anything.

It is a greatly generous act of deep solidarity for which she has our deepest thanks. Trinity is going to have to learn an unfamiliar lesson-- money can't buy everything, least of all integrity. Not everything can be 'left-washed', not all alliances broken by wealth & power.

Trinity College Cambridge has put out a statement merely noting that the Clark Lecture scheduled for the 13th is 'cancelled'. In fact, Arundhati Roy withdrew as an act of solidarity with & after being informed that the College was under local & national censure

British political reporters right to stick together to stop No 10 choosing who scrutinises the PM. Big principles at stake. Number 10 seems to back free trade in goods but not in information.

Claire O'Neill, sacked by No 10, says "my advice to anybody to whom Boris is making promises - whether its voters, world leaders, ministers, employees or indeed family members - is 'Get it in writing, get a lawyer to look at it and make sure the money is in the bank'."

Has anyone without health insurance been a regular on TV or in opinion columns analyzing the contest? Is anyone paid by the hour being regularly asked whether they’re afraid of democratic socialism? The worst country to report from is the land of your own tired reflexes.

When Trump was winning, the media bent over backwards to ask why. So many reporters dispatched to mine the psyche of the Trump supporter. I don’t see that effort going into the Sanders and Warren, and even the Yang, phenomena, all of which are novel in our politics. Dig deeper.

Remember when Johnson failed an IQ test, on LBC? No, of course you don't. The media didn't report it. Remember when an ill Diane Abbott forgot her brief? Of course you do. It was reported everywhere! THAT is the difference between a white privileged man and a woman of colour.

This new paper is a bombshell. It finds that neoliberal structural adjustment policies imposed by the IMF on global South countries have worsened health system access and *increased neonatal mortality*. Structural adjustment is a crime against humanity.

Correct me if I’m wrong but this is the first time... In a long time... I see a white man uses the stage he’s given to say what we all need to hear. We mostly hear women speak up and this is encouraging and will help our work. Thank you Joaquin.

This thread would have been better if you’d defined prestige tv & soaps first, or highlighted the key ingredients that each type *had* to have & showed those requirements are actually the same in both. Without this, your theory, which is smart & interesting, is harder to defend.

Asked whether the BBC was institutionally racist, Munchetty said: “I’m going to turn this on its head: find me a large organisation, and find me an employee from a minority group who feels they are able to bring their true self to work today.”
