Next: a govt. geographer will issue a statement clarifying that Missouri is not Kansas, to be followed by an unsigned but high-level statement from USGS admonishing them for correcting the president and defending his creative geography.

One of the most compelling--and instructive--pieces of footage I've seen. Watch the entire clip for full effect.

I like the toast analogy. I think we're all "toast" to some degree at this point; it's just a question of how toasted we want to be. How aggressively we decarbonize will determine the "shade." The likes of have said as much.

This is really important for journalists to grasp. I see and hear the phrase used all the time in news items and analysis. The is that there is no normal.

No kidding. Reminds me of when the Navy adopted its own camos in tones of blue and gray--perfect for making anybody who fell overboard virtually invisible to rescuers.

Succinct, spot-on moment from in his : "We must stop handling episodic emergencies and realize that the entire planet is in a state of emergency." But NYS needs to show more actual progress in cutting emissions.

By comparison, the Great Fire of 1910 (aka The Big Burn), which I think still stands as the largest on record for the US, consumed 3 million acres & worst yr for US as a whole was about 10 MM.

I remember exactly where I was, though I was only 7 yrs old. There was a lengthy gap between the shooting and this "flash," and I recall holding onto a child's hope that he would somehow recover. I don't think any of us have, really.
