This was a great interview. I find Ezra rather insufferable, but he continues to have on fascinating guests & does a pretty good job driving the conservation. Ezra is thoughtful enough that I count this & the Weeds amongst my indispensable podcasts. You should challenge yourself.

If one actually reads "Identity" you will discover that Dr. F. devoted significant ink to both "left" and "right" identity politics. But why bother with facts - tweet on.......

while failing to recognize the party of white men as the party of identity politics. hard pass.
-
Identity politics dominates both sides of the political debate in the US right now.
-
Only if not being white male is an identity
-
Not remotely true. The Democrats and Republicans play the identity politics game differently. The Democrats are and have been focused on fighting for the identities of many different groups. The (Trumpian, at least) Republicans are focused on white male identity.
-
FWIW, my take is that both sides are focusing too much on differences and exclusion, when we need to be focused on finding common ground.

Lol Fukuyama has been shown to have made grandiose predictions about democracy and international economy, stated them as facts/analysis, and then was incredibly wrong. Have any of you actually read End of History?

I think Ezra Klein already explained clearly how so-called “identity politics” works : it matters * when we use it *
