Do like most of Europe does put the gratuities on the check and pay servers a living wage to start. Most people pay with credit cards. Cash is often left & untaxed. Foreigners know that we normally don't add gratuities, maybe you didn't deserve a tip."tell them tip isn't included"

That’s a shitty bartender then. I waited tables and tended bar for years. I always made more from tips than if I’d been paid hourly. The ones that hustled always made more.

Why is employer negligence an accepted "culture"? Pay your staff.

I wouldn't call it a culture, more of a scam by employees who don't pay employees a fair wage.
-
Tipping is kinda cultural, sometimes in North America servers and bartenders can take home more than their hourly wage in a day from tips. The attitude towards tipping isn't the same in every culture whereas its nearly mandatory here. Youve traveled enough to know this yea?
-
It's part of the routine here because server (bars especially) wage is/was lower than minimum wage because of tips.
-
So they justified a lower hourly wage because of a culture of tipping.

You got me.

I don't mean to seem pedantic, I like your opinions but sometimes I don't agree or feel like it's coming from a place that isn't fair. You're honesty keeps me coming back though.
-
It was knee jerk. I understand it's cultural now. Thanks.

That’s bs. I’ve batended for over 20 years, and tips add 15-25$ an hour to my wage. Without tips there would be no reason to put up with the abusive garbage that comes with the job.

Bartended.

I'm so sick of this narrative, as if employers have empty pockets and are willfully stiffing their employees. Of course minimum wage should be higher, but no effort to help offset that labor cost increase in small businesses just puts them out of business. Period.

This is racist. Other cultures are just as valuable. Please don't pass judgement on those who don't look like you. They don't owe your priveleged butt anything!

Blame your system or your Boss for not paying you enough from the money the tourists spend in his/her bar.
