The more correct term is a lock-out. A strike is when the workers agree not to work to gain concessions and rights from the boss. A lock-out is when the company prevents workers from working to get its way. This is a lock-out.

For the folks being forced to work with no guarantee the Congress will approve retroactive pay? That more closely resembles servitude.....

It's actually more of a lockout. Which begs the question: being that Fed employees are prohibited by law from striking, why isn't their employer prohibited by law from locking them out???

Insulting piece of shit. If he had the balls to sit down with a group of veterans or federal workers struggling without a paycheck, not a single one of them would say this wall was more important than feeding their family or keeping a roof over their heads.

Mitch McConnell can end this as well if he takes up the bill that he passed again.

A vet issue? Gawd! The shutdown occurs because Democrats refuse to support $5 billion for border security (a few miles of wall vs 100s already existing) - that if Obama requested Dems would support without controversy. The only issue is "Trump" wants so Dems must per se oppose.
-
The senate and the house have both passed bills to reopen govt. plain and simple it’s closed because trump is being stubborn
-
In 2018 the Senate Dems leveraged their minority filibuster power to prevent passage of the bill that would have avoided the shutdown. The bill had "wall" funding so, of course!, the minority Dems "had" to oppose. A Schumer "filibuster veto" not a Trump veto forced the shutdown.

Trump 'took the mantel' and 'proudly shut it down'. His words.

He calls it a strike to shift the blame and of course a strike means they won't have back pay and are working for nothing. Trump is just a narcissistic con man. NO morals NO feelings NO nothing

This is despicable. Lying as usual to make himself look better. Federal employees are NOT ON STRIKE. Trump is wholly responsible for the shut down and putting federal employees and their families in financial dire straights.

Don’t think he cares who he hurts as long as he gets what he wants. Drag it on for months, years? What a “leader”.....

@votevets he says strike huh? I am a federal employee and vet. My union isn’t striking. We are essential, so must work with no pay. Pretty sure if ppl are being told to work without pay, and also without having a say in the matter, it’s more akin to slave labor than striking...Thanks. How utterly insulting that Trump & Trump Properties continue paying multitudes of illegal foreign workers while denying hundreds of thousands of Veterans, tens of thousands of Disabled Veterans, & the entire Coast Guard pay for work they currently do protecting our sacred nation.

Trump wants to call this a “strike” so he can call out the National Guard and declare a “National Emergency.” Then he can suspend civil liberties (like due process) and assault the free press with censorship. You don't see where this is headed? Martial law.
