All kids should go back to school this fall or sooner. For parents of students with special needs, school is much more than an education. As a father, I implore governor Whitmer not to delay the opening of schools any more than she already has.pic.twitter.com/yEZQulC5gc

And how do you propose we keep the students AND teachers safe from COVID??

I share your concern for the safety of students and faculty. There are guidelines in place, plus this disease, while deadly for the elderly, does not have the same dangers for students and teachers. I appreciate that we might not agree on this point.

Even if only one student life is lost to this while everyone is in school, it would be devastating to the whole community and incredibly scary for all the students.

But what about students who live with the elderly and have no choice? What about guardians who are at a higher risk like those with cancer etc? Will you send those students to school and let them have the virus and potentially letting their family get sick and potentially die?

Doesn’t have the same dangers for teachers? According to NCES, during the 11-12 school year 19.7% of teachers were 55 or older. Not to mention teachers with pre-existing conditions that makes them vulnerable to COVID-19.

How is it not dangerous for teachers? Make that make sense.

Betting there are a lot of elderly teachers...and teachers with asthma, diabetes, and many other medical issues. Stop making this political and start thinking logically.

Sports teams with unlimited funds can't keep players from spreading it so how exactly are underfunded schools going to keep students, teachers, and staff from doing so?

I didn't realize the disease stops to check if a person is a teacher before deciding if it should kill them or not. Good to know!
