Here is a photo of me in the 70s, when all this amazing boomer feminist work was going on around me. I benefited from the efforts of women just a decade older than me. I am incredibly grateful to them.

My 6 year old loves Smiggle but I always try and avoid it tbh. However, after spotting this poster this afternoon I may have take her on a spending spree there! Boys can like pink and girls can like blue - who knew!

Well done to young Theresa Bennett, fighting against the sexism of the Football Association and taking her case all the way to the Equal Opportunities Commission. I hope she won her case, although I suspect her chances were thin. (1978)

If you can't nowadays be sacked for 'being a distraction to your male colleagues', .

Thank you to Penny Ballcock, who tried to get into another profession where women had previously been barred. I hope she took her case to appeal and won.

Many many women replied to me last week to say they'd been instrumental in getting their schools/workplaces to allow females to wear trousers. If you're a young woman who's never even had to think 'Am I allowed?' then

Thank you to all the boomers who campaigned against this (1977) and against the many other 'jokey' slogans and cartoons making light of rape.

Thank you to Ann Williams who became the first women to take part in a national ploughing competition. Yes, it's niche, but nevertheless she was striking into new territory.

Here's the Magic Circle again, this time banning an adult woman from joining, even though she's won an international prize. (1977)

Thank you to sportswomen like Vivien Saunders who fought against sexism, and then fought again when her case was thrown out. (1977)

A reminder that in the 1970s, universities could ask girls to get higher grades than boys for exactly the same course. If you're a young woman who's accessed higher education, you got a fair chance at it.

Did you know that, in the 70s, women were often pressured into sterilisation by NHS staff?

This woman, along with many others, was denied the chance to enter the printing trade because she was female. that companies can't legally exclude women any more purely on the basis of their sex.

Talented young footballer Debbie Anderson denied a place on the team because 'soccer is for the development of boys only', and anyway insurance companies don't cover girls. (1973)

(2 of 2) Because they 'simply did not have the nerve to add another woman to the faculty and thus bring the departmental balance to half female and half male.' We've seen before that under-representation of women was seen as fair, & equal representation waaay over the top. (1973)
