Day 2 of is from my first time deploying seismometers in Washington to record airgun shots from the Langseth offshore. Geoff Abers taught and I about how you should never underestimate the tools you need for fieldwork in Cascadia...

Day 2 of is a throwback to when I fell head-over-heels in love with a Vampyrum spectrum (great false vampire bat). This was during an trip to Calakmul in 2015 & my first time working with Neotropical !

As part of my MSc we visited Siccar Point, Berwickshire 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 where in 1788 Hutton observed an angular unconformity structure. This strengthened his view on earth dynamics and natural laws. 💙

DAY 2: ON TOP OF THE WORLD! 🌏 Fieldwork really can take you to new heights. My favourite memory of this was hiking above the cloud line to the summit of Mt. Ruapehu, NZ, to look at ash deposits!

Day 2: My Master's research field work was on detecting Infrasound from moving sources at Volcán Santiaguito, Guatemala, November, 2012 (w/ !) Stunning scenery, packing in microphones, felt earthquakes, volcanic ash on everything, and data!

2015: The day we dug the autosampler out of almost 2m of snow, to find it had stopped working days before the snow fell... hours of work for zero water samples 🙂🥾❄️🌨💧

day 2. Doing fieldwork in remote places involves getting into all sorts of transportation modes. In AK natural parks, you need a permit to land a helicopter, but bush planes can land everywhere, and with the right pilot they literally land anywhere!

    Perfect landing spot 😬
    Flying over the Chitina river.

Starting my challenge with my first time in the field seeing a volcano: my MS site 71 Gulch, WSRP, Idaho. Before this, I had never been west of KS, never seen pillow lavas, peperites, crazy dikes, nor gotten *quite* the sunburn. But hey, we gotta start somewhere

Day 2: Also in 2007, I spent 2 weeks in Alaska driving around the Kenai peninsula installing broadband seismometers for the MOOS experiment. We sometimes took boats and had some long hikes to get to our desired locations. Great sightseeing, too.
