I do prefer to write what I think is clean code from the beginning. Of course rewriting other people's code needs to be justified and requires to talk to them first. On the other hand of the spectrum I'm dealing with dirty code written ages ago that is not maintainable.

I’ve learned that you can only do two things with dirty code written ages ago: 1. Let it be, leave it as it is, it probably works. 2. Rewrite the entire thing. Anything else is just an agony for those working on it that will end bad but don’t worry they will find new engineers.
