Probably because we don't have a killer product that requires its speed yet. Whether we ever will I don't know, but 4G was pretty much required to stream HQ video. I'm not gonna be playing High Fidelity wireless VR anytime soon but I hope we find some use case.

That’s because even with the most intense computing needs (even on a full computer) by normal consumers, you have no use for speeds that equal the upper limits of 4G/LTE

I'd take decent 3G coverage over 4G/5G speed, though 5G might help with coverage.

it probably won’t. 5G is principally short-range, because it’s higher frequencies (hence bigger bandwidth).

If you upgrade every year, no. If you keep your phone for 3+ years then the fact that it has 5g may be useful for you in the future
