Spherical photos and video are not VR! They are one form of content you can experience in a HMD, but they basically suck.

@vk2zay do you feel the same way about light field capture?

@JasonZnack nope, lightfield is far more compelling.

@vk2zay I didn't know grumpy grandpas were engineers at Valve! I'll get off your lawn right after I shit on whatever you're working on.

@BJ_Schwartz I'm only working on making it possible for your consumers to view your content once you invent volumetric cinematography. ;)

@vk2zay you do know it's more than possible to add volumetric effects to a cinematic experience, right?

@BJ_Schwartz sure. I mean only that the basic art of cinematography when your audience can move and look anywhere is in its infancy.

@vk2zay gotcha. I can't wait for the technology to advance allowing you to tweet more than 140 characters so you can be clearer ;)

@vk2zay what of static generate CG expieiences with no interaction? Subjective to dictate what VR is or isn’t at this stage.

      2. Alan Yates ‏@vk2zay 16 Sep 2015

@Filmbot some of them can be compelling, especially realtime rendered ones you can translate in without breaking your brain.

@vk2zay I agree its wild west in terms of content both CG & live action. Compelling content w/ story done right is what will help VR succed

@ajohnclark sure, I own a Theta I use a lot too. Still has no depth information and breaks your brain as soon as you translate or roll.

@vk2zay also there is a lively debate about your tweet in 360 VR Video Professionals group on FB if any interest.

I think VR is on a continuum and 360 video is simply on the lower end of the scale vs CGI @vk2zay @DeeKej @industrychanger @JasonZnack #VR

@TweetEdMiller I agree with that, however the vast majority of 360 stuff today is low-fi "hey lets put gopros on a stick and call that VR!"

@DeeKej Spoke to somebody from the Nokia OZO team at #IBCShow yesterday. It's something to be excited about & solves a lot of problems

@TweetEdMiller Yeah, OZO is one thing that looks like the right direction. The thing I'm worried about there is resolution and framerate tho

      7. Edward Miller ‏@TweetEdMiller 16 Sep 2015

@DeeKej those can be improved. It's the different approach than #googlejump or stereo pairs that's so exciting. It's the right way to do 3d.
