1. Just under 750 cases of female genital mutilation were referred to the Metropolitan Police over the last five years, though prosecutors are still yet to make a conviction.
2. Non-consensual circumcision violates article nine of the European Convention on Human Rights, which protects the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion. Imposing one's religion on another is precisely what the article is designed to prevent.
