    yesterday my mom and i did a 2k swim in long island sound and i kept touching mysterious soft squishy entities. luckily i have read and so my swimming mantra was "touching little bornes, just touching little bornes" over and over for 45 minutes

    I've yet to see an op-ed piece suggesting that racist Trump supporters should "reach out" to liberals and "find common ground" - it's always the reverse. Just the way minorities are always expected to politely explain their need for equality to bigots waving confederate flags

    so cool. there is a similar geological / chemical background to the story of the Delphic oracle!

    One of the world’s most chilling ruins is the Ploutonion at Hierapolis, “the Gates to Hell”. Here crowds watched priests lead animal sacrifices down into a cave, where they died mysteriously as if dragged down to the underworld. And no one knew how they did it until recently.

    the moral of the story is think critically when you donate, do your own personal research, know what your money is going to be used for, don't give because of trends or memes or viral campaigns, and give to small local organizations

    i think these optics are very, extremely not good. i also think that suddenly RAICES had way more money than they'd ever had before, money they can only use for a restricted purpose, and hundreds of thousands of people looking at them to use it to do something immediately

    you can easily find out what a nonprofit's budget is by looking up their financial info on their website (this info is public record). let this inform your giving. for example if the budget is over $10mil find a similar smaller organization and give to them instead

    i just want to say, as a fundraiser... if you see a viral tweet or facebook campaign shared by tons of people urging you to donate to an organization, find another similar organization and donate to them instead
