the way to outmaneuver an edgelord then is not to try to be edgier than them (they’ll beat you with experience and domain-specific knowledge) but to simply be more sincerely earnest. Earnestness surfaces novel and nuanced edges in a domain-independent way
My theory is that they've been hurt for no reason in the past, but internalized that as true self = wrong, so they construct a false self, and bully honest people to punish that old self who was hurt. It's unresolved anger. I did this.
