If you get into it? It’s literally the major plot of the book!
-
people have a way of missing things in plain sight

Very well. It reminds me a lot of the “ heartwarming” stories about kids raising money to pay off their classmates’ lunch debt...it’s really sad if you think about it for longer than two seconds. Have a nice day!

I used to read this to my kid and now hope I haven't done any permanent damage to her. Lol. But I tell her this at the end, you may grow up to be somebody else completely different so just don't worry what others say about you now and she nods everytime!!!

That’s a good frame

OTOH, I believe “The boy who cried wolf” has a really important message for adults and children alike and it’s missing in many discourses.

I’ve noticed a lot of classic fairy tales have pretty terrible messages, although I believe many were meant to be morality tales? It’s interesting to see how much our sensibilities have changed. Idk if Andersen meant his to be morality tales tho

morbid tales for morbid times I guess

Drive-by commentary: That ugly duckling ought to just realize its inner beauty already and not give a damn about what the other ducks think because it has so much more to offer than they can even imagine. Disclaimer: never read it or had it read to me
-
1) much easier when you are not a literal child 2) "just don't be affected by being rejected" is kind of a crappy take overall
-
Yeah, not my most thoughtful, ergo "drive-by". Nonetheless, you've insulted my honor and so you are hereby challenged to a bout of fisticuffs. Queen's Park after school. Be there.

When read the recap, i heard the story more as "find your people", find your niche. If you're a writer, find writers. If you're an artist, find other artists. Find your community, then you can thrive in it.
