The reporter has apparently been tweeting further nonsense, but I can’t link you to their tweets because they blocked me when I pointed out basic journalism ethics violations in their prior reporting.

Here’s why using these words and asking these questions is so ludicrous: the discourse on “crime” is just all backward.https://mobile.twitter.com/equalityAlec/status/1422949466986921991 …

(If you’re wondering, “crime” is down in San Francisco according to official police data.)

Where are the
@journo_anon’s and@melG679’s of the world to engage here? He’s one of the most strident, smug, ascerbic ppl making this same claim, but with a huge following.@equalityAlec, the attitude and self righteousness are really not called for.1 reply 0 retweets 2 likes -
(1/x) Interestingly,
@equalityAlec’s was completely silent as to@sfchronicle’s journalistic ethics all year long while they published “non-opinion” pieces with HEADLINES about how “crime is down,” which everyone in sf, but for Alec who lives in DC, knows is bs…now sfchron2 replies 1 retweet 7 likes -

for anyone curious, unsurprisingly, he’s worked with
@chesaboudin@SFDAOffice from when Chesa was a public defender. In fact, he helped with Chesa’s appeal of the Humphrey’s decision. He’s been on Chesa’s podcast, etc. So, can we stop pretending like there is any objectivity…1 reply 1 retweet 9 likes -

@chesaboudin@SFDAOffice was the treasurer for@equalityAlec’s nonprofit until he won the election and became DA of SF. https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/813422012 ….@TheMarinaTimes you see this? It’s fucking shameless.3 replies 1 retweet 9 likes -

I bet that nonprofit and others are still paying Chesa, which is why he doesn't care about the actual citizens of SF

Anyone who has lived here more than a couple of years knows crime has been tending down for 30 years.

Respectfully - I don't see any evidence for that. The best argument may be that the data is different than the Zeitgeist (which I contend with, and I know you don't), but almost every one of my progressive friends 'feels' that crime is higher, at the minimum.

When have retailers closed stores early or altogether, citing crime? When has a retailer threatened the city to move out of their flagship location if they don't do anything about shoplifting. When have we ever seen videos like the Neiman Marcus bag incident?

I remember when every window on Valencia was boarded up. Now it’s booming.
