“Carve out ways for discrimination to continue,” @RepMcGovern? #HR5 blatantly disregards lawful conscience protections for people who object to participating in abortion. My amendment would've protected them from being charged w/ discrimination for their beliefs.
Nobody should be forced to perform, refer, pay for, or otherwise participate in an abortion. Such a law would violate the religious freedom of #prolife health care providers that honor the sanctity and dignity of human life and from the moment of conception.
The big "carve out" goes to the abortion industry. #HR5 undermines the longstanding, bipartisan Hyde Amendment that prohibits taxpayer funding for abortions. PlannedParenthood could profit even more with taxpayer
for abortions. That’s a sick and sinister re-defining of "sex."
Is this your excuse for voting against your constituents? Your living and breathing (not to mention voting) constituents? That you didn’t get an amendment you wanted? I can’t say I’m surprised, but I am disappointed.
