This shutdown was preventable, and it’s a shame that a strong border securing our nation is no longer the bipartisan priority it once was. Under Pres. Bush, the Secure Fence Act passed handily in the House and Senate, 283-138 and 80-19 respectively.

No wall needed. Besides, the President said incessantly that “Mexico will pay for it.” Why are the Republicans shutting the government down over something he said Mexico would pay for? Or did he mean to say and all of us will pay for this folly?

Congress should not be pandering to a single individual, whose ridiculous Wall notion and blatant xenophobia do not have support from people of this nation - or from the state you represent.

You understand a wall won't work, right? Most illegal immigration comes from visa overstays. A 2000 mile wall will be tested by anyone determined, so must still be manned by people (making the wall irrelevant). Plus, ladders, tunnels, drones, ships, and planes circumvent them.
