Garfield Wikipedia page has become embroiled in controversy over gender. Put on your flame retardant suits, folks. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Garfield_(character)#Gender …pic.twitter.com/xggBNvhfKR
Somebody added 19 citations of Garfield's gender on the Garfield Wikipedia talk page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Garfield_(character)#Gender …pic.twitter.com/uAIMUZ3ygL

Friends, I have an update on the Garfield gender controversy that probably won't sit well with many of you.
Washington Post conducted an investigation, and, well, I won't bury the lede here: Jim Davis said Garfield is male.https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/comic-riffs/wp/2017/03/01/is-garfield-a-boy-how-a-cartoon-cats-gender-identity-sparked-a-war-on-wikipedia/ …
I would like to thank @aviselk, @comicriffs for conducting a thorough and fair investigation. I think their publication has a bright future.
Friends, we should not view the Garfield gender ruling as a loss. We should view it as a victory for what matters most: Canon.
There are some who will want to continue this fight by pointing to the contradiction in Jim Davis' statements, alleging a canon paradox.
That is the wrong reaction. Throughout this past week I have steadfastly maintained that Jim Davis is the final authority on Garfield canon.
Even when we do not like it we must defer to Jim Davis' statements, which, along with the comic strips, constitute JD-CANON, and are gospel.
Now is the time for all of us to come together so we may move forward in the interests of Garfield canon.
There will be more fights over Garfield canon ahead of us. So take heart that tomorrow is a new day, and it's not a Monday.
Thank you all for walking this journey with me. I am moving to the forest now.
.@modkodkod First off, FIRST OFF, Bart Simpson is voiced by Nancy Cartwright. Does that make Bart a 59-year-old woman? (1/?)
.@modkodkod Second off, I can't believe I need to say these words in 20-freaking-17, but Garfield's Pet Force IS NOT CANON. FULL STOp. (2/?)
.@modkodkod THIRD, if pronouns matter so much to you, then here's Garfield self-referring as "she." (3/?)pic.twitter.com/MjQMcDrmhs
