Piece in on how to reform council tax through annual residential property tax based on current values. Fairer. Practical. Government cant keep putting off reform of council tax for ever.

📢 Calling all London Lib Dems! It’s polling day and the final few hours of the election campaign. Thank you so, so much for all you’ve been doing. One final push to get more Lib Dems at City Hall. 🔶🔶🔶

Today voters across Richmond, Kingston and Hounslow can come together to end Tory representation by electing to City Hall. Give South West London the strong voice it deserves.

To ignore India's COVID crisis would irrational as well as uncompassionate. UK optimism over the vaccine roll-out could be punctured rapidly if a variant emerges there which renders current immunisation ineffective. My piece for

Shirley Williams has died aged 90. In 2014, Vince Cable wrote in the New Statesman that "there is probably no one alive who has done more than her to define and shape British social democracy".

Very sad to hear of the death of Shirley Williams, a tower of social democratic and liberal politics. Her vision of a mixed UK economy at the heart of Europe provoked me and so many to leave Labour in the 80s. Her intellect, emotional intelligence and good humour are a huge loss.

With Lord Charles Moore advising Johnson, this isn’t going to go anywhere, but this man is absolutely right. How I’d love just to be put down like an old Labrador when all that lies ahead is pain.

Chris Whitty: “From now on there will be no more lockdowns - and the UK will treat Coronavirus like flu.” Quite possibly the most important statement yet during the pandemic. Hopefully that also means no Coronavirus vaccine passports - like flu.

Why has thrown his weight behind petty, short-sighted decision to scrap years of work on industrial strategy . Business and unions angry at triumph of ideology over practical, cross-party work for British industry.
