This is a hugely sad day for the Liberal Democrats and for the very many people across political and public life who had immense affection and respect for @paddyashdown. That is terribly sad. He was very truly a liberal throughout. It won't get much remembered but the pages in his diary of the time when Sidney Cooke was (rumour had it) being relocated into his constituency show his courage under political fire.
