"What we joined was a common market, nothing more" On this day in 1963, ten years before UK joined the (then) European Communities, the European Court of Justice held the special nature of EC rights in Van Gend en Loos Plain what UK was joining in 1973

1/ I’m sounding the alarm🚨. After Brexit is done, the European Convention on Human Rights is the next target for those who drove the Leave movement. And it may well be successful [THREAD]

Yes, it’s depressing to hear people parrot nonsense about “EU human rights” and “our law being made in Germany” - but you know who’s responsible for giving that nonsense airtime and not successfully challenging the politicians & media pushing it? Clue: it’s not the vox poppers.

I went to listen to Ode to Joy in Brussels tonight played by the philharmonic orchestra. I will not believe for one second that the dream of this timeless piece of art could ever be destroyed by a divisive campaign based on lies and hate. We are stronger. 🇪🇺💪🏾✨

1/ Michel Barnier took the unusual step of recommending a legal basis for the future UK-EU partnership before talks have even begun at a meeting of ambassadors yesterday - he proposed Article 217, an Association Agreement. This matters for a few reasons.

After tomorrow, Brexiters will use lack of sudden adverse consequences as validation... ...while not telling you this is only because of very transition arrangements they opposed as long as possible Just watch Truth is, transition arrangements saved Brexiters from themselves

    6) Putting all that together, only rational conclusion = Johnson has deliberately engineered a delayed but still hardest of hard Brexits; based on a serious rupture in economic, social, political and legal relations with EU. Remind me: did he put all that on the side of a bus?

Mairead McGuinness doing Ireland and the EU proud. As Nigel Farage tries to be as rude and as arrogant as possible. “Please Sit Down, Put your flags away. You’re leaving. And take them with you! (Parliament then erupts in applause) Goodbye!” 🎤

Last week your party's MPs legislated to remove the government's obligation to negotiate family reunion for child asylum seekers. Your words are hollow. Sit down.
