Westerners think Asia is exotic, but I just spent a week in Uppsala, Sweden, in university culture, and THIS place is exotic. Tuxedoes, ball gowns, Latin, opera, student choirs, artillery, laurel crowns for doctorates, and diplomas with gold rings. Someone make a movie of this.

In Norway, their national day is celebrated in their “Sunday best” or the traditional formal outfits (bunads). Can you imagine July 4th activities with women in silk sheath dresses and heels, men in suits, or regular people wearing colonial dress?

The exception are the about-to-be high school graduates wear a jumpsuit (usually red), which they have worn for nearly a month straight, no washing it, through lots of risky and risqué activities. Man, I love Scandinavia!
