A question, perhaps not an intelligent one. When I learned algebraic topology, it was mostly homology, complexes , exact sequences and so on. Homotopy was another part and these two did not meet each other much. In your topic, will these two aspects weave in and out more tightly?

Good question. We won't see much more homotopy than what's in this lecture, and will move to homology next. But the bit we have seen here will be used throughout. In parrtcular: the homotopy invariance of homology and (secretly) the notion of simple homotopy equivalence.
