In hardware decoding, VLC can do 8K decoding on Windows: https://vimeo.com/254723528 and 8K on Android https://vimeo.com/254723180 (Galaxy S8). We also have 4K decoding on iPads. We now see less CPU and GPU consumption than MPC-HC and Movies on Windows 10 RS3!

VLC support HDR on OSes that supports it natively on HDMI (Windows 10 RS3) and we do HDR tone-mapping on all the other ones. Android TV should follow soon. We support 360 video that are correctly tagged, in equirectangular and cubemap. We support 3D audio in Ambisonics form, up to 3rd order (Youtube only does 1st order) and we do binauralization with custom HRTF (you can plug your own)!pic.twitter.com/vxMWFRoeyX

The default HRTF was provided by

VLC can now browse network shares, like FTP, FTPS, SFTP, SMB. Browse, and play, of course :D And VLC stores the passwords in the secure store of the OS, so VLC is not storing them by itself (because that would be in plaintext).

We support Chromecast (finally!) This is done without the official (and non-open-source) SDK, so that it is available on all platforms! It remuxes compatible videos and re-encodes the other ones, so you can even cast your DVDs! This is available on Android and desktop! iOS soon.

We've done a lot of work to have faster seeking on MKV, MP4 and WMV. VLC can also now play fully Bluray menus in Java (sic!) and we fixed playback of a lot of weird formats, notably QuickTime-from-the-90s and broken .MPG/.PS files...pic.twitter.com/smIlK6e1M1

No, that's the goal: .0 are tested by geeks (and people on twitter) and the other people get the .1 when the biggest issues are fixed :)

Updated to 3.0 64bit.. It's buggy.. If u pause the movie and play it again voice starts cracking up.. To fix cracking up either you forward it to reverse it with mouse click then it plays smooth.. So downgraded back to 2.2.8
