Are quaternions represented as (x, y, z, c)? What does density represent?
Yeah, forgot about that. I set c to 0 in this (the change is due to varying the quaternion added). The density is a function of the magnitude of the quaternions after this operation (denser = closer to zero). The color is a function of the angle between incident ray and gradient.

I‘m still a bit confused. If c=0 wdn’t the Julia set just be the unit ball? And the gradient of what function?

I don’t know why it would be. The grad is of the density function.
