seriously, though,don't agree with your reasons. if humans and machines become indistinguishable on the phone, our default response to both will converge. which is more likely, we treat machines politely or humans rudely?

I think it will be an both plus interesting other behaviors, the way some people treat their cars like pets and others kick their pets like car tires, but still others have entirely new attitudes to cars

But they *know* it's a car. Everything after that is a choice. If I don't know, I've got to default to behaving as if it's a human at the other end. The 'social brain' dislikes being emotionally suckered even more than losing money.
