“I never asked to be born” sounds like something a grumpy teenager would say but it’s so true The gift of life is extremely unsolicited - and the social stigma around suicide, by extension, is profoundly rude You had no choice but to opt in, and opting out is very frowned upon

Replying to
It is a repeated line in Kurt Vonnegut’s books, but is not necessarily a suicidal sentiment. More an excuse for not living well or doing good by someone else’s standards. I often used it that way in my ineffective early 20s before I brazenly claimed mediocrity as a virtue.
