Hmm. I think a better dividing line between would be some function of home ownership cost in places people actually want to live rather than an arbitrary 100k threshold for “high income”.

yeah! Chart seem to reflect shift of population moving toward urban centers. Jobs pay more, but also it costs more to maintain the same standard of living. I doubt it feels like things are improving. 100k in NY city is like 50K in VT's biggest city. Mostly land/rent costs afaict.

Yup the home offers a useful locus for reinventing the American dream and $100k is very house poor in LA, SF etc. Also see it in terms of the shift from the old white picket fence-ey obsession with lawns and transition to drought tolerant landscaping.
