You don’t think the formation of the USA had a similar affect? Either people were aware because it was interesting or because they had to fear being captured for slavery.

I find in Singapore people were/are more interested in the Russian and French Revolutions - but even those didn’t have direct consequences the way WW1 did

if simultaneity is a criterion than everything before telegraph cables is excluded by default, and WW1 is the first global scale event to happen after the cables were laid.
