“Basket of deplorables” is actually a pretty good portfolio strategy. Most assholes are just assholes but some are on to something and it’s typically undervalued because of cloud of negative valence.

Important to distinguish between disagreeable and deplorable. Deplorables might even be polite/civil. It’s the moral repugnance their views evoke that is the problem. If a racist or misogynist is the first to discover anti-gravity, I want to know, but I don’t want to be friends

Exactly. Also the assembly line, hanging file folders, the Dewey decimal system, DNA... Trick is to to develop social structures that allow the wrong people to do the right thing while curtailing their impulses towards evil shit
