I enjoyed your thread and the contrast of America today, after the triumph of the Whiggish vision via Republicans of the Civil War, to America in the Age of Jackson. But Fallows did his travels in the Obama era, and wasnt expecting a Trump win. Still an excellent critique
thanks for the great commentary on work from a favorite pundit, . Cities are the economic engines, but US governance favors small towns; cities are neutered at the state+local level, with suburban decentralization of decision-making.
